Watershed Launches RFP For 1 Megaton Of Carbon Removal Credits
source: Watershed

For the first time, Watershed is issuing a request for proposals (RFP) to join its ecosystem of decarbonization partners.

The company is looking to secure carbon removal credits for its clients, which include major organizations like Airbnb, FedEx, General Motors, Visa, Walmart, four of the top six US banks, and six of the top ten private equity firms.

With such a diverse clientele, Watershed requires a wide variety of solutions, prompting the launch of this RFP to source both nature-based and engineered carbon removal methods.

Currently, Watershed’s clients have access to a curated set of permanent, nature-based carbon removal projects, as well as clean energy and sustainable aviation fuel options.

Past collaborations include an innovative partnership with Frontier, unique virtual power purchase agreements, and purchases of sustainable aviation fuel certificates.

With this RFP, Watershed aims to diversify its range of available solutions, enhancing the project portfolio for its customers while creating high-impact and low-risk opportunities.

Suppliers chosen through this RFP will benefit from a streamlined sales and contracting process, connecting with an aggregated buyer group via Watershed.

Furthermore, suppliers will have the chance to develop long-term partnerships with Watershed’s growing customer base, which now includes over 500 companies across various sectors and regions, and will gain priority for future purchase cycles, including multi-year contracts.

Watershed customers building carbon removal portfolios will also enjoy a number of advantages, including access to high-quality projects typically reserved for the largest buyers, while supporting emerging, climate-critical technologies.

They will also be able to take advantage of collective buying power, reducing costs and easing the complexities of contract negotiations.

Lastly, the company’s customers will benefit from a secure supply in a market with limited availability, allowing them to make substantial progress toward achieving sustainability goals.

Watershed will be submitting applications by March 31, 2025.
